Better Assurance for Metals and Minerals: A Conversation with IRMA and BSR

Tuesday July 19, 2022

Founded in 2006, IRMA provides a comprehensive standard covering the full range of social and environmental impacts from industrial-scale mining, and is applicable to all geographies and all mined materials.

One of the most important aspects setting the IRMA system apart from other assessments is its commitment to serve each stakeholder group equally. This tenet is grounded in equal multi-stakeholder governance of the IRMA Board of Directors. The six stakeholder houses of IRMA—mining, labor, communities, NGOs, purchasing (buyers of mined materials), and financial institutions—have equal voting power in guiding how the system operates and which elements are included in the Standard

IRMA will present the basic elements of its system, as well as an overview of current uptake, and then answer questions from the group.
